Literally translated as ‘house of the city’, the NH Hotel De Ville is located on one of the nicest streets in the historic city centre of Groningen.
Get cycling in order to explore Groningen; a city where 50% of journeys are made by bicycle. As the capital of the province with the same name, Groningen has plenty for visitors to see. The hotel is close to the bustle of the pedestrian area Grote Markt, and the food market at Vismarkt, and is home to the fourth tallest church tower in the Netherlands. One of the oldest Dutch universities, the University of Groningen, has its historic academic centres nearby. Consequently, the demand for cafes and bars has been answered and you will not struggle to find somewhere pleasant and reasonably priced to eat and drink, relax or people watch.

On entering this 4-star hotel you will be impressed by the lobby and its enormous antique mirror and bronze statues. Enjoy summer breakfasts in the garden and rest in the stylish conservatory lounge.

You will not have to go far from your comfortable 4-star base to find the Martinitoren (Martini Tower) and its excellent views overlooking the bustling Grote Markt.Rent a bicycle from the hotel, as you will find multiple opportunities for cycling; by far the best way to discover Groningen. Free high-speed internet access and meeting halls are available to cater for your conferences or gatherings.

Food & beverage

The hotel’s contemporary cuisine is French and varies seasonally. The gourmet restaurant, Bistro 't Gerecht, serves elegant salads, fresh fish, fresh lobster from our lobster tank and steak and chips; just some examples from the menu. It is possible to order most dishes in small portion sizes. On warm days food is served in the hotel's garden; a city garden where breakfast is served on summer days.
At breakfast, sample homemade rolls with your eggs, cooked to order.
Breakfast is served from 07.00 – 11.00.
Dinner is served from 18.00- 22.00.

Room information

NH Hotel De Ville's rooms all feature superior Treca beds (210 cm), Waterwerk bathrooms with heated floors and warm towels, and lighting designed locally by Albert Geertjes.

Area information

Groningen has a rich culture, heavily influenced by the student community and its own history. A mix of the old and new can be found on the city streets. You may struggle to move around the city by car, and parking is limited. Rent a bicycle, or walk to see the main attractions.

Groninger Museum (1.5km by bicycle) – Designed and built in 1994, in futuristic style, this ship shaped museum houses an assortment of local and international modern art.

Noorderplantsoen (1km) – This pleasant public park contains some of the old walls of the city.

This was my fourth visit to the hotel and would stay there again, great location, really friendly and very attentive staff. Relaxed, Informal and cosy.

the staff was very pleasant

The street noise level was so high up until about 4:00 am that the hotel felt compelled to supply ear plugs with the room. Very disappointed and very tired upon leaving.

very nice centrally located hotel-- modern amenities and free wireless (which it should considering the prices of the rooms) access.

The hotel did NOT provide any information about breakfast service (when where) so had to guess. The showers in the bathrooms are not safe; they are a combination bathtub and shower and are vaulted VERY HIGH off the floor. I can imagine how the elderly would traverse such a barrier and get out without hurting themselves. Also, no bath mat was provided making the tubs VERY HAZARDOUS. I

Well situated, friendly staff

the bed was much too small (140 cm) for two persons and it was very hard. We did not like the cover on the bed which was lined with plastic!

Very helpful and friendly staff, with excellent spoken English. Quiet yet central location. Free bike hire and as many Chuppa Chups lollies as you can eat.

Aardige bediening en goed ontbijt

De superior kamer was smoezelig, badkamer klein, kussens niet prettig en interieur zag er oud uit. De prijs voor de kamer was niet in verhouding met de kwaliteit.
