Hotel De Gouden Leeuw has a cosy restaurant in which you can enjoy the culinary masterpieces created by our chefs. Under the supervision of our chef Danny van Veen, we create daily changing specialities. We will serve different kind of specialities during the different seasons. We have a smoking or non-smoking area in our restaurant.

Hotel De Gouden Leeuw also has an intimate, modern restaurant “Upstairs”. You can find this trendy restaurant on the first floor of our hotel. Restaurant “Upstairs” has meals on the a la carte menu as lobster, bass fillet and duck breast cut. For those who cannot choose between all of these meals, we have an "amuse" dinner - The perfect way to taste a little bit of everything.

Restaurant “Upstairs” has a very extensive wine list with over 150 different kinds of wines against a good price. The restaurant can also offer a separate room where you can have a private dinner.

Area information

Castle Duivenvoorde (2.65 km) - Castle Duivenvoorde is in the middle of Voorschoten an Leidschendam. A long row of trees takes you from the Veurseweg to beautiful fields and a wonderful park. The castle was build in the middle ages and the current style is representative of the 17th and 18th century. After a major restoration, Castle Duivenvoorde opened its doors for the public in 1965. Every room in the castle has its own character. A tour through the castle takes you to the glorious past of the people who lived in the castle ages ago.
Opening hours: There is a tour, twice a day, at 14:00 and 15:30 from 1 May to 1 October, Tuesday to Saturday.

De Horsten (11 km) - De Horsten country estate in Wassenaar is a royal estate. It is a property of Princess Juliana and she inherited it from her mother Princess Wilhelmina. De Horsten offers a large and beautiful green area of 415 hectares and is one of the largest estate complexes in the South of Holland. Ideal for a nice, long walk.

The in house restaurant called 'upstairs' was possibly the best meal I have ever had. Fantastic menu and service. The Deluxe room had a whirpool bath and huge kingsize bed. I would highly reccomend this hotel.

The breakfast were good; the rooms were clean and tidy; as we had snow when visting the underfloor heating kept you warm

The live cooking buffet night; the number of people at the event made trying to understand where the starters and main courses started and finished was an issue as it was not clear where to go for each section of the meal.

The breakfast buffet was included in our price. There was a wide variety of choice and we enjoyed it. Although the train station was about a 15 minute walk from the hotel, there was a bus that ran in front of the hotel between Den Haag Central Station and Leiden Central Station. This was very handy; we used it a lot.
